Groups

Groups form communities in microcosm.  Within the group context, be it psychotherapy or ceremonial, we experience ourselves and others in a "more manageable," safe crucible which reflects the larger world.

Below you will find information regarding the various groups I utilize in my practice.  Please feel free to call me with any questions.

Group Psychotherapy - General Info

The experience of psychotherapy in a group context is a powerful healing modality.   Although it shares much with individual therapy, it is distinct.   In group therapy one commits to a psychotherapeutic community or circle for a minimum of 6 months.   In the circle we experience more feedback and more interactions than individual therapy alone can provide.   The individual self does not develop in a vacuum but, rather, in a community.   Group therapy provides such an opportunity.

I have been a group therapy leader since my internship years in 1973 and 1974.   During that training I led both inpatient adult psychotherapy and substance abuse groups.   Over the course of my career I have led numerous process oriented therapy groups of varying duration.   Some of these have been mixed gender while others have been men's groups.

One factor in my ongoing love of group work is my personal participation in a peer men's group for over 18 years.  This group nurtured, challenged and comforted me unlike any other experience, in its own unique and authentic way.   It allowed me to watch a growth community function (and, equally important, dysfunction) over a long period of time.   This has been an invaluable asset in my leading psychotherapeutic groups, giving me experience many other group leaders do not possess.

Men's Psychotherapy Group

Currently, as of October, 2009, I have one men's group which has one opening.  You may click here to download more information about this group.   I maintain a list of men who are interested in group participation, so your call is always welcome.  I may begin another men's depth psychotherapy group in the near future.  Please call or check back here soon.

Additional Group Work

In addition to psychotherapy groups, I periodically facilitate ceremonial, shamanic, mythopoetic and other short-term and long-term groups.   Most of these meet monthly for a specified period of time.   In the past these have include monthly ceremonial circles, mythopoetic circles and spiritual retreats.
