In addition, I have studied shamanic culture and practice
for over 35 years. Undergraduate study introduced me to indigenous
spirituality, the work of Eliade and the contemplative traditions of
the West and East. My graduate honors thesis at Emory concerned the
comparison of psychedelic experience and southern Protestant evangelicalism.
Additionally, I have studied shamanism and ceremony with The Foundation
for Shamanic Studies, The Four
Winds Society and The Heart
of the Healer Foundation.
I have worked in a variety of settings. I have been
employed in EOA centers, as an undergraduate assistant, private and
public hospitals, community mental health centers and a large, multidisciplinary
private practice. I have been practicing psychotherapy for over 23 years. I am currently in solo private practice of psychotherapy, supervision,
psychoeducation and consultation. I also serve as an adjunct instructor
at Mercer University's graduate Counseling program and am an occasional guest lecturer at the State University
of West Georgia, graduate Psychology department.
I was born in Tampa, Florida on October 31, 1950. I
have been married to my wife Kathy for 30 years. We have two children – Matt
who is 24 and Ashlyn Diana who is 14. Completing the Foster clan are
