Psychotherapy Supervision Group
Facilitated by Phil Foster, MDiv, LPC
Psychotherapy group meets the first Friday of each month from 3 to 5 PM. Currently, participation in individual supervision with Mr. Foster is a requirement for group supervision. Members include new graduates, LAPCs and experienced clinicians. The theoretical focus of the group is eclectic and integrative. Emphases are on transpersonal, mythopoetics, psychodynamic and existential modalities. Particular focus is placed on therapist self awareness, growth and self care; spirituality in psychotherapy; transference and counter transference. The group format is experiential, didactic and collaborative in nature. A personal interview is required.

Group Leader
Phil Foster received an undergraduate degree in Religious Studies from the University of South Florida and the Master of Divinity degree (honors program) from Emory University. In addition he studied community counseling at Georgia State University (non-degreed) for 2 years in order to obtain the LPC. Phil has also studied indigenous spirituality extensively with the Foundation for Shamanic Studies, the Four Winds Society, and the Heart of the Healer Foundation. His work experience includes general and psychiatric hospital facilities, crisis intervention and multidisciplinary psychotherapeutic practices. Phil has also been a sub-investigator in over 40 psychopharmacological, FDA clinical trials. Currently, Phil’s private practice is in Decatur, Georgia, working with individuals, couples, groups and institutions. He has over 34 years of counseling and 25 years of psychotherapy experience. Phil’s practice specialties are personal growth oriented, depth psychotherapy; spiritual issues; gender issues; gay and lesbian issues; helping professionals’ issues; artists’ issues. He has presented numerous workshops and retreats on these and other topics. Phil is a founding member, Past President, former Chaplain of the Licensed Professional Counselors Association of Georgia (LPCA). He is the former Chair of the LPCA Foundation. Phil is an adjunct instructor at Mercer University and has been a guest lecturer at the State University of West Georgia. Phil is an ordained Disciples of Christ minister in standing with the Georgia Region.
